Time Warner Vs. Viacom = Time for Satellite TV
I am a Time Warner Cable customer and I have to say the service sucks, it costs too much and if the corporation imploded tomorrow I would be a happy camper. With that said it has simply been easier to go with cable instead of trying out satellite television and DSL.
If you haven’t heard Time Warner is threatening to remove 19 Viacom channels from their service. Now they are claiming Viacom is the problem as they are asking for too much money. Frankly I could care less what it costs Time Warner, I want my TV.
My cable lineup includes three or four hundred channels I never watch and could care less about. These are channels almost no one I know watches and have virtually no ratings but are packaged in to make it look like the service is worth the enormous cost. The Viacom channels Time Warner is threatening to remove however include Nikelodeon, VH1, MTV & Comedy Central or what most people call “half the channels you pay cable providers for.” As far as I am concerned Time Warner can take every dollar they waste on the hundreds of channels with four viewers and toss it to the twenty or thirty total channels people tune into.
The unintended consequence of all this? I started looking at satellite service to buy in Time Warner’s place and I am intrigued. It looks like I can get every channel that is currently in HD that I want in HD along with a couple hundred I could care less about for less money than I am currently paying for a bunch of worthless crap. Wait what? Why have I not done this earlier?
So in short, Time Warner can burn for all I care and if I wake up tomorrow and those channels are gone OR if they reappear and suddenly my bill goes up I just might drop them for one of the dishes.
