Yes the medicine tastes bad

Democrat Pennsylvania Governor Rendell is giving the latest fear-mongering argument for passing a stimulus bill that seems to contain little stimulus; without it states that are constitutionally required to balance their budgets won’t, resulting in the need to raise taxes. I obviously am not a fan of taxes but as hard as they try to lace this stimulus with pet projects and sweet promises that it will solve our problems, legislators cannot escape the simple truth that the medicine tastes rotten and for our sake it should.

Voters need to wake up and realize that everything comes with a cost. Those who cannot wait to tell you about “free” universal health care always forget to mention the price tag associated. Politicians are like retail salesmen, they get you in the door with promises that sound too good to be true and by the time you wake up and realize you’ve left the store with nothing but crap, it is too late, no refunds and no returns.

States are afflicted with the same disease that has taken over our federal government, a spending disease. To get elected politicians promise the moon without the dizzying flight and voters become electrified by all the new programs and assistance they will receive. What is never explained to voters is that it is their money being used to pay for everything the politicians promise. Voters have become so accustomed to big state and federal budgets and waste they no longer question whether or not they have to pay the bill. They just grab the ATM card and hand over the change.

If Governor Rendell and the state government of Pennsylvania have become so reliant on federal tax dollars to survive than it is time to trim the fat and make sacrifices. It is time to cut programs that aren’t needed, limit compensation for state workers, stop building projects that don’t make sense and stop funding programs that don’t work. Cuts to education, cuts to health care, cuts to construction, cuts all around. Likewise every county and every town in Pennsylvania needs to do the same. Just as the state relies on the federal taxpayers dime so too do those governments rely on the state. This has created an incestuous system that exists in every state in the union and is eating us alive.

American’s haven’t been asked to sacrifice, they have actually been told the opposite. The federal “stimulus” or pork bill is a payout to the states to fund construction programs that may be necessary but are mostly not stimulus, to pay for contraception programs and other pet projects that have no business being paid for with federal money. The medicine they are giving to taxpayers tastes sweet; a sugary placebo that will do nothing to stop the disease. There is no sacrifice and when the time actually comes there may be no cure just devastation.

Government as we know it does have to change, it needs to disappear. Citizens must be presented a clear choice, they either embrace a loss of services or endure a loss of wealth. Every single township, city, county and state needs to be revised and limitations on government instilled, the American people need to learn to live within their own means and then demand the same of their leaders. We’ve already witnesses a loss of wealth, loss of jobs and devastation to the worlds order so why should fear of more lead us to the same destructive path?

The medicine is going to hurt and could well ravage the fleshy parts that we thought were still safe. Government as it stands needs to be decimated, the horrific spending of both Democrats and Republicans ended and responsibility returned to the individual; this is the only path toward true liberty and a revival of capitalism and creation of wealth. Comfort and a sense of security will go too but they were always mythical to begin with. The path of our founding fathers was not one of coddling the citizenry but inspiring them toward self-reliance, self-rule and discovering their own manifest destiny. The job of the modern politician is to court celebrity and wealth while offering tyranny in exchange for safety. It is time to take the medicine and embark upon a less safe but more righteous and reviving path.
