All major media outlets are reporting that Barack Obama will pick federal appeals court judge Sonia Sotomayor as his appointee to replace Supreme Court Justice David Souter. My thought is that because Sotomayor is both hispanic and a woman she will instantly be embraced by the media (who would have embraced any Obama pick) and whose opposition will be vilified as racist and sexist.
Like ALL of Obama’s appointees thus far however time is not on their side. The more the onion is peeled back the more his picks have been found to be less than admired when first announced. Already there is reason to question whether she embraces “judicial activism” and anonymous sources in a recent report by Jeffrey Rosen maintained some less than stellar reviews from anonymous sources familiar with her.
It should be interesting.
Here is Sotomayor on video saying appeals courts are “where policy is made” and then realizing she is on camera and trying to walk back from the statement.
Updates: High rate of her decisions have been reverse… Meanwhile CNN’s Jeff Toobin, who was seen nightly trashing Hillary Clinton then John McCain while pushing Obama during election called her a “voice for moderate liberalism” echoing earlier CNN guest radical liberal Alan Dershowitz who said she was a left moderate. Are you kidding me? It is not news, just CNN
NBC’s “Political director” Chuck Todd immediately pulls the race card.
Drudge points to a quote from Sotomayor that brings race and gender into the debate… ‘I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male’…
