A lot of platitudes with no policy other than saying Israel should stop settlements. This administration is uneducated in believing none of these sentiments have ever been expressed before toward a part of the world fighting a very ancient conflict. This administration is arrogant to believe Obama’s personality alone make these sentiments any more meaningful.
I LOVED his section expressing how the United States is pro-Muslim. His quote from John Adams, “The United States has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Muslims.” Wow, ringing endorsement right there and given after the United States went to War against Muslim pirates in the Barbary states where they enslaved their christians captives. The rest of his retelling of the amazing tradition of muslim culture America wasn’t all that amazing.
In short it was a nice speech that will receive a great deal of glowing press. al Qaeda hasn’t ended the War against us, we are still in Afghanistan and Iraq, bordering on an all out conflict in Pakistan. Israel is still left in the same stalemate with Palestinians. Also just to get this out, everyone would LOVE to see Palestinians put together a homeland and a peaceful state. Why is this declaration even given as if it is revolutionary? Bush said it constantly. I think the more significant statement would be, “Get your crap together ASAP and stop whining about Jews.”
I went into reading and watching the speech a skeptic and a skeptic I remain.
