I live about two streets away from a grocery store plaza that includes a Sams Club, Wal-Mart and other retail stores. Every morning on my way to work and every evening coming back I see someone riding to this plaza on a scooter. Worse still in several of the stores in that plaza as well as my local Wegmans and mall there are scooters available to use by those inclined while shopping. In short order, it is impossible for me to go a day without seeing someone motoring around in a power chair.
When I see the commercials from pitchmen screaming that they can get you one of these devices and have Medicare pay for it, the image is always of some aging indigent senior citizen. When I see people driving them in person, they are almost always young (meaning fifty or less) and always obese. Not just fat, not just overweight, but there should be horns and blinkers to let you know these people are moving obese and they are driving around in a device that, as far as I am concerned, should go to benefit those lacking the true ability to walk.
Personally if I ran one of the Socialist Surgeon General boards coming under Obamacare I would immediately take these things away from anyone who simply carts their fat butt around. Frankly a walk to and from a grocery store is the greatest prescription we can give these enormous people. Watching them drive back from the store with the cookie and cake loaded basket drives me insane! This is why Health Care costs the rest of us so much money. These people need cardiovascular exercise STAT not another excuse to down a 2 liter and mayonnaise while sitting.
The problem is, I know for a fact the government is already paying the bill for much of the waste and abuse that goes into providing these scooters. So everything I know to be true tells me the problem will only get worse when Dr. Obama and Nurse Hillary take over our care. I fear a world in which I won’t be able to get a tetanus shot but some enormous porker will have a hover chair like Professor X and a personal air filtrating dome like the bubble boy surrounding them 24/7 all on my dime.
There is a real need for these scooters by a VERY small percentage of the population. The rest of the people can buy them if they like but that Medicaid or Medicare or any insurance program is paying any part of the cost of these devices for really, really, really fat people makes me sick.
On that note let me just add something. I don’t want to see one comment about how I am being mean to fat people. I know how hard it is to keep weight off and frankly I could lose a couple pounds myself. Most Americans could. There is a difference between enjoying ice cream a little too much and walking around like an elephant in Costco brand sweat pants. Enough is enough already.
Abusing ones body to the point where a person is not only a detriment to themselves but to an elevator is obscene and should shouldn’t be rewarded. I will kiss Tyra Banks fat ass and then tell her I wouldn’t go near the rest of her until she dropped a few. If someone wants to be enormous, fine with me that is their right. Don’t come crying to me when you need surgery, a power chair or sympathy. I have none.
