Harry Reid’s Racism & More Campaign 2008 Revelations

Cover for book Game ChangeJohn Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s new book Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime exposing a great deal of insider information about the campaigns. Tidbits from the book are already appearing but so far the BIGGEST revelation comes from embattled Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who let his inner racism fly when speaking about then candidate Obama.

He was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a “light-skinned” African American “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,” as he said privately.

Reid has since apologized but the already ready to be defeated in 2010 Senator is sure to see the backlash. Let me see though, Don Imus said Nappy Headed Hoes and it started a media explosion thanks to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Harry Reid suggests only a “light-skinned” black can be president and speaks of a “Negro dialect” and I have the feeling neither of the usual fear-mongers and shakedown men will show up. I wonder… I really wonder why. Oh wait, no I don’t.

Speaking of the not so racially sensitive comments, check this other revelation out about Obama from none other than Bill Clinton.

[A]s Hillary bungled Caroline, Bill’s handling of Ted was even worse. The day after Iowa, he phoned Kennedy and pressed for an endorsement, making the case for his wife. But Bill then went on, belittling Obama in a manner that deeply offended Kennedy. Recounting the conversation later to a friend, Teddy fumed that Clinton had said, A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.

Ouch!
