Is Donald Trump the savior conservatives have been waiting for in 2012? He is moving up in the polls. He is bringing some life to the primary. But probably not as this handwritten letter to new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi shows.
In the letter to the then incoming Speaker, Trump praised Pelosi as “the best.” He notes that he wishes every politician representing America success and that he gets along with many people regardless of Party.
The warning signs? Trump has never really had a party and likely holds or has held positions most of us on the right wouldn’t agree with. His focus on Obama’s birth certificate and vague “I will negotiate better” economic ideas don’t do much to answer questions about what he really believes or how he would govern.
Meanwhile we already have a pack of middle-roaders and closet liberals pretending they are true conservative candidates. Do we really want more?
To be fair, I have argued repeatedly we need either a business or military person without a long political history to step up. I just don’t know if Trump is what I hoped for. We have time and to find out. Usually though the debates are a cluster and the media does anything but ask real questions. So I don’t know if time alone will shed real light on Trump or any of the candidates. Remember we ended up with McCain last time, who knows what madness 2012 will bring.
So we shall see.
