In a surprise to no one the Internal Revenue Service has revealed that conservative groups were inappropriately flagged and investigated during the 2012 election and in some cases were asked for their list of donors, a violation of IRS policy. The agency, according to the Associated Press, singled out groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names and claim the practice started with “low-level workers in Cincinnati and was not motivated by political bias.” Sure, no political bias here.
Many conservative groups had previously claimed they were being unfairly targeted during the election. Lois Lerner who heads the division which looks over tax-exempt groups confirmed their claims and stated “The IRS would like to apologize for that.”
The agency has been building an army in anticipation of enforcing Obamacare and many have worried what the agency could be capable of. I think we have our answer.
