Why do I have to be seen naked because you won’t profile?

Can I ask, just what is wrong with people? Every story I see about the uniball bomber ends with the same prescription, installing full body scanners at the airport capable of seeing people naked. From what we know the bomber made his way on the plane without documents because some other terrorist let him in, not because government agents couldn’t get a peek underneath his clothes. So why are we suddenly jumping to the extreme here?

I have a radical idea for you, don’t hire terrorists to work at the airport. Do you want to know what a good start for not hiring terrorists at the airport is? If they are Muslim, come from a country other than the United States, they shouldn’t be the last line of defense into the country. Now I don’t know if the guy who let this nutless wonder onto the plane fits those criteria, just saying it seems like a better place to start than looking at billions of innocent people naked because they want to take a flight to Kansas.

Speaking of that, let’s get to profiling. Do you know how the ACLU and the terrorist rights groups whine about profiling innocent muslims? Where are they on this massive violation of human dignity and personal rights for law abiding human beings? What in the world gives the government the right to look beneath my clothes but not the right to profile within the only group causing the problem?

Back to the nudity thing, I love how the selling point is that the images are contained to a private booth where TSA agents sit concealed and watch all the people naked. This is a job? Last I checked there were men paying good money to do this in their spare time. Some high school dropout TSA worker is watching images of my nude wife, sister, and eventually children from a private booth where no one can see him. What could possibly go wr… oh yeah, TSA worker masturbating, lovely.

They also keep saying we shouldn’t worry about the images getting out to the public. How many stolen laptops and hacked computers does the government have to accumulate before we realize these are the last people who can keep things secret and away from the public. We run Wars where every single troop movement is broadcast on television and the most advanced predator drones are hacked into for a couple of bucks. Yeah, I feel safe with those images in their computers.

Enough with this crap. These full body scanners should be outlawed immediately and the people offering this up as an actual solution need to have their heads examined, especially the media who are suddenly racing to this as the only way to save the Republic.

Standing Up For Smart Girls

The first I heard about a list produced by Playboy Magazine Online showcasing conservative women it was under the guise that these beautiful souls were individuals the magazine, “Loved to Hate.” I skimmed the list, thought, “Yeah, we do have quite a few beautiful women on our team” and added a rather crass comment to Twitter noting my surprise that Peggy Noonan made the same list as the vivacious Megyn Kelly. I probably should have read further.

The list wasn’t, in fact, women of the right the author wanted to fantasize about in that most beautiful but carnal of ways. Instead the author wanted to take it down a few thousand notches to an extreme area of “hate f***ing.” OK, the term alone is enough to make my stomach churn. Alone that would have been bad but not necessarily terrible to the point of real offense. I’ve never engaged in the act the technical term Hatef***ing” describes butI am aware it has a connotation to a specific kind of intercourse between two willing participants. Again, not great but the word alone doesn’t get to the root of the problem.

When I actually went to the cached Playboy page I saw the author wasn’t just going to the sophomoric with his fantasies but the vile and extreme. A point that would have been nice to know from POLITICO, which instead gave the impression it was of the “love to hate” variety. It was so extreme that eventually Playboy pulled the plug on the article, probably as soon as someone with common sense and decency at the company actually took a moment to read what the author wrote.

To be clear, I am not the kind of person who is offended by the nude female body or even the descent into crass humor. Lord knows I pick apart the physical appearance of some on the left including the bevy of sexually ambiguous female figures who flood the Party; the Janet Napolitano’s of the Democrat world.

If the article had simply been what I originally thought it was, beautiful conservative women the almost certainly wretched looking male author wanted to self gratify to while fantasizing that they would even look in his general direction, well fine. It isn’t the highest of commentary but this is America and we are used to that kind of thing. Janine Garafalo espouses racism while calling anyone who attended tea parties rednecks who hate the president because he is half black. She goes so far as to fixate on her own crude sexual reference for the tea parties that was even echoed by CNN’s Anderson Cooper. In short, we have a lot more to worry about from much more prominent people than a bad writer at Playboy.

The author wasn’t just fantasizing sex. Instead he chose imply a theme of violent rape and dehumanization. Using only the woman’s physical appearance and their opposing political beliefs to further a theme of demoralization and humiliation. It was hate tossed to a group of women simply because they express their beliefs in public.

Today Playboy itself is a sad and dying magazine empire. Lost in the digital age there have been stories that it is for sale but cannot actually fetch the bloated price it is being circulated for. The reality is that the magazine is in a state of desperation and nothing close to its more stimulating routes.

Thoughts on Torture

1) OBVIOUSLY it is not the “ideal” or the “most effective” method of gaining intelligence from someone. The ideal way is for them to just tell us. In an “ideal” world people wouldn’t be blowing themselves up. In an ideal world there would be no War. We don’t live in an ideal world.

As for most effective, the most effective method would probably be to have the family of a terrorist and their friends there with guns to their heads and the readiness by our interrogators to follow through. While not “ideal,” it would probably get us what we need.

At the end of the day this is War and in times of War our better angels must often be silenced. I would love it if we could sit these guys in a chair and offer them a deal. I would love it if they wanted apple pie, hot dogs and a comfortable bed and I hope that is offer number one and we do everything possible to use harsh interrogation tactics as a last resort.

No one is suggesting torture is the first line of defense but it is a method and one that has proven effective over thousands of years.

2) So they won’t talk, now what? We constantly hear there is a better way. What is it? What is the most effective way that doesn’t involve torture or fear or threat when all available means have been exhausted? What is it? Tell me! When you try every nice method and they still won’t talk because, you know, they are devoted to their cause, then what? Never do I hear Obama or liberals offer up the alternative. They won’t talk, so do we just leave them in a cell and hope for the best? If we believe they have information that can save lives, do we just close the door and do nothing? If there is a better way available that brings results, let’s hear it.

3) Of course they can give us false information under torture and say anything to make it stop. Guess what, if you put them in a room with their lawyer they can give us false information there too. Does anyone really believe that in a court of law with their hand on a Bible or a Koran it makes a difference? So because the threat of their life will make them give fake information, somehow they will fear contempt of court and a harsher sentence compelling them to talk? Are you kidding me?

These are people who don’t care about our laws, that is why they are fighting us. They know once they are captured they are going to spend their lives behind bars so what do they care about lying in a court room?

We all know torture might not give us what we want but don’t pretend like not torturing them holds an enormous advantage and they will somehow be more willing to give us real information.

The most effective means of torture is following through. You torture, they give you fake info, you verify the information, if it is fake you torture them more and worse. After you realize they aren’t giving information up or they don’t have anything of value, you kill the enemy or imprison them. Does that sound harsh? Grow up, it is called War. Go read about the Revolutionary, Civil, Barbary, Spanish-American, Korean, 1812, World, Vietnam, Iraq and all other Wars we’ve fought. This isn’t a tea party.

The objective of War is to stop the enemy and dominate the field. You don’t do that by holding hands, you do that by killing or containing as many of them as possible before they can kill or contain as many of our people as possible.

If enemy combatants won’t give up information they have no other use to us. That means death or imprisonment.

How I would rebuild #TCOT

If you haven’t been following Top Conservatives on Twitter shut down for a day last week because of internal squabbles and is now going through some kind of complicated negotiation process that I frankly don’t understand and don’t care about. I have written about TCOT (followup) before after the sites owners started using it to push candidates and push the buttons of others while using the list as leverage with elected officials. It appears that may have been a point of contention this time around as well. I don’t know, I don’t care. Frankly the squabbling is childish, counterproductive and a site could be built in about ten seconds to fill the void if it ever went down permanently, so I wouldn’t get all bent out of shape if it doesn’t survive.

With all of that said, #TCOT has played a major role in building up a very strong grassroots online right community and it should survive and should move forward without all of these childish antics. I have suggested many improvements to the site since the beginning, many of which I still believe in. I also suggested creating guidelines for how the list is leveraged and have always wanted to see it more transparent. Now might be the time to get that worked out so this kind of infighting and shutting down stunts and posturing will never happen again and we can all move forward peacefully and without sending a giant “we suck” message to the world.

I know right now many people are working on the sites future and I wish them the best. I have a few suggestions and wanted to share.

#1 End the TOP part of TCOT

I believe the site should have a list and that list should be sortable by how many followers a user has. It should also be sortable by how many people they follow and likewise how much they have tweeted. These should just be elements though, things you can do but not the destination. The entire notion of ranking “top” users doesn’t tell us much. There are many people who only use their followers as people to be sold too. There are other users who actually engage with many of their followers but you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference simply by looking at the list.

I have always been one for quality not quantity and in the early days was often annoyed by the endless begging for followers, the incessant posts about new followers, how people were moving up on the follower list, then more begging, and of course others begging to beat the beggers. It wasn’t fun and if we can end that waste I for one would be happy.

#2 Clean up the list, regularly

There are dozens of SEO salespeople, dead accounts and spammers on the list. Again quality vs. quantity. Additionally people on the list should actually tweet. There are a lot of accounts that were once active but now don’t update. Why does someone who never posts need followers? Get them off there and set some kind of limit. Don’t post for a few months, no need to be there. Never posted once? No need to be there.

Dumb quote of the day

“After eight years of Clinton and eight years of Bush, it’s like people have to get creative and work for a living.”

- Daniel Kurtzman on the decline of the on-line “Bush Bashing” industry he built & his inability to make fun of the messiah

GOP Hip-Hop campaign: A new example of old incompetance

According to the Washington Times new GOP chairman Michael Steele wants the Republican party to reach out to black and Hispanic voters with a new “off the hook” PR campaign. Oh let me count the ways this will fail and make the Republican Party look like a roundtable of out-of-touch and insensitive morons.

First of all, “off the hook” hasn’t been taken seriously for at least fifteen years, probably longer. Same with “off the chain.” I am pretty sure if I walked over to Compton and said “off the hook” I wouldn’t be walking back out. Same with “fresh” and “mint” or any use of the once popular but now laughable Snoop Dogg/Jay-Z talk of adding “shizzle, nizzle, cheesy, neezy” etc. to sentances as catch all’s. The rule of thumb is this, if your grandmother knows what you mean if you use it, the expression is no longer popular. If I see a bunch of commercials with some actor in baggy pants telling a Puerto Rican girl about Ayn Rand through rap I just might throw something at my TV. OK I won’t hurt my TV, I love my TV, but I will be enraged.

Second of all, most young people and “urban community” types aren’t interested in buying what the GOP is selling. This is where reality has to set in. The reason Obama did so well with this group wasn’t because Will.I.Am made a video or Obama had a social networking site. Obama did well with these communities because he promised them a world where they could have everything without having to do anything. This is a continuation of their existence thus far; a life where everyone is a winner, all of their dreams can come true, the government is responsible for taking care of them, their actions have no consequences, their parents don’t need to be respected but are just ATM machines or non-existent, hard work is the same thing as showing up late/calling in sick and playing on a Web site or cell phone and they uniquelyare owed everything people on TV have and shouldn’t have to wait for it to come to them.

It takes a level of maturity to understand that delaying gratification and limiting dependence on a central authority is a more fulfilling existence than just accepting instant gratification and pleasure at the expense of individual liberty. A good percentage of the young college aged twenty-somethings will naturally become Republicans when they start having children and paying taxes. Defense suddenly trumps all when you coddle a newborn and begin thinking about the dangers of the world. Fiscal discipline becomes a necessity the moment bills need to be paid and creditors show up at your door. For those who will go on to pay their taxes, show up to work each day and build a nest egg, they will naturally begin lamenting all of those who take from the system and give nothing back and then want more.

As for the “hip-hop” urban realm, so much of this space is influenced by social programs, drugs and community mentality. A television commercial, radio ad or billboard is not going to influence them as much as a “community organizer” telling them their problems are societies fault and responsibility. We are fighting against decades of entitlement programs and mass academic and media dishonesty. Some TV commercials on BET aren’t going to cut it.

In the end there is almost no way this can actually go well. I cannot imagine the GOP producing any kind of advertising that won’t be viewed at best as lame and worst outrageously offensive. It will be chatter for MSNBC, the New York Times and a long list of liberal media outlets who will mock the effort and indict the Party faithful as racists. I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT proceed, DO NOT pass GO, jump ship immediately on this idea.

Before the GOP can make any headway with non-traditional Republican voters it must service two groups; conservatives who stayed home on election day because they were disillusioned with Republican leaders and moderates who were Bush supporters in 2000 and 2004 but found themselves dismayed over titanic spending and government scandal. Republicans must take power and then responsibly govern. We must find and build up LEADERS not politicians but actual LEADERS who will influence the lives of their constituents and hold government accountable. LEADERS make tuff choices and create responsible plans; they don’t make hip-hop PR campaigns. Once we have a Party of such leaders their example will stand as a model of character and influence and their re-election campaigns will be more than a race against their own record but a true campaign that highlights their success.

The form of pandering in any “hip-hop” PR campaign is disgusting and unproductive. It is a sign that GOP leaders still have no conception of why John McCain lost or why their candidates were turned against in 2006. This is a waste of time and if this is one of the first things Michael Steele is spending his time and the GOP’s money on I have little to no faith that he will steer the ship any better than Mike Duncan.

Huffington Post caught doctoring video

It looks like HuffPost is spreading a doctored video being used to smear FOX radio host John Gibson.
